Following the recent cyber-attack that has been causing disruption to the NHS computer network since Friday, it is important that pharmacies remain cautious.

While the attack was not specifically targeted at the NHS and is affecting organisations from across a range of sectors, experts in cyber-security believe that the malware attack is not yet over and is likely to be the first of a number of attempts on UK and global businesses.

The Positive Solutions Support Team will continue to monitor the situation closely and will report any relevant updates.

All Positive Solutions PMR and IPS systems are installed with the latest Anti-Virus software updates, however it is also important that pharmacy businesses follow a number of best practice measures.

Best Practice for Pharmacies following the cyber-attack affecting the NHS

  • Ensure all critical data and systems are backed up and sufficiently protected – off site back-up is best.
  • Remain vigilant when opening emails especially containing attachments. If you think the email looks suspicious check with the sender before opening it. Fake invoices are a very common way of targeting companies.

If you are concerned a computer or device has been compromised:

1.     Identify the infected machine and unplug / disconnect it from the network. If you don’t know how to do this switch off the power.

2.     Call the Positive Solutions IT Support Team immediately on 01257 235 940.

There are  also many websites now offering support, advice and updates on the recent cyber-attack.
